What is a Secondary Suite?

Means a second self-contained dwelling unit that is located within a primary dwelling unit, where both dwelling units are registered under the same land title.

A primary dwelling unit is a townhouse, row house, single- or semi-detached home, or duplex

Do you have a suite in your house you would like to or are currently renting?

No, The home owner would be permitted to only perform the work necessary to ensure that the existing secondary suite meets the requirements of the Alberta Fire Code without having to meet all the requirements stipulated under Section 9.37 of the Alberta Building Code 2006.
