Pest management
in Grande Prairie covers a bit of everything, from Canada thistle to mountain pine beetle.

Some insects, like bees, are beneficial

We focus on:

Our Approach

Parks Operations follows an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach, utilizing monitoring and survey programs to identify the type and population of pests before undertaking control measures.

This ensures that we don't overreact to small infestations, which is a waste of time and resources and also may needlessly expose both workers and the public to pesticides.

Control measures may be mechanical (hand-picking caterpillars), cultural (choosing disease resistant trees), biological (releasing predatory insects onto infested trees) or chemical (spraying with synthetic pesticides).

Other Pests

For problem cats/dogs, rodents, nuisance birds, wildlife or other pests, please see this page.
