Plant insects cause the majority of damage to City trees, shrubs and flowers. They move in cycles of infestation and are often controlled through natural predators after a few years.
The City conducts regular monitoring programs for known problem insects such as mosquitoes, mountain pine beetle and forest tent caterpillar. Other insect pests are more unpredictable and we respond to them as infestations occur.
Not All Bugs Are Bad!
Many insects are beneficial. They control pest populations (spiders eat mosquitos, for example) and they can benefit our yards and gardens. Take a look below to see some common insect pests and beneficials you can find in Grande Prairie.
