Yellowjackets (Vespula spp.) and hornets (Dolichovespula maculata) are social, colony building insects. They are opportunistic feeders, meaning they are both predaceous and scavengers. They build papery nests either above or below ground.

Affected SpeciesWasps

While most people consider wasps a nuisance, some species are also primarily predatory and help control pest populations.

Most nests are controlled effectively using products sold at garden centres.  Control nests early in the morning when most of the foragers are still in the hive and cool temperatures make them more docile.  Do not leave food or sugary liquids around your yard, as this will attract foraging wasps and hornets.
