Mountain Bike Unit
The Grande Prairie Mountain Bike Unit consists of members of the RCMP working in partners to patrol throughout the City of Grande Prairie from May until September. Their primary duties are to enforce Provincial Statutes, Federal Statutes, and Criminal Code offences.
The Mountain Bike Unit enables the RCMP members to be highly visible and to access areas which may be impractical for police vehicles. The Mountain Bike Unit also participates in various special events held during the summer. This active police presence opens communication between the police and the public, as cyclists are more publicly accessible then vehicular patrols may be.
Foot Patrol is a program in which uniformed members of the Grande Prairie RCMP take a proactive approach to policing in the downtown core and other specified areas of Grande Prairie.
Foot Patrol also attends concerts, parades, and special events such as the Street Performers Festival. Members liaise with business owners in order to identify any concerns they may have.
This is a highly visible program that is well received by business owners and members of the public.
Safe City Nights
The Safe City Nights Program has received support of the City of Grande Prairie with an enhanced police presence to ensure the safety of the community during the night hours with a focus on patrols of licensed premises, noisy parties, and any known trouble locations. The RCMP members are encouraged to be active in the enforcements of all statutes, Traffic Safety Act, Gaming and Liquor Act, and Municipal Bylaws.
Safe City Roads
The Safe City Roads Program has received support from the City of Grande Prairie for an increased police presence to ensure the safety of the community with a focus on traffic enforcement on city streets, the downtown core and high risk locations. RCMP members are expected to be active in the enforcement of all statutes, Traffic Safety Act, Gaming and Liquor Act, and Municipal Bylaws.
