Full Time Emergency Services Dispatcher
(Grande Prairie Fire Department)
The challenge is responsibility for the safe, effective and efficient operation of the Grande Prairie Fire Department operated emergency and routine communications network, including the E-911 and dispatch systems. Other operational duties compatible with the dispatch centre operations may be assigned.
The successful candidate will be a mature self-motivated person with the ability to speak clearly and concisely with a well-modulated voice under emergency and stressful conditions. Requirements include completion of Grade XII, must be bondable and have the ability to work independently as well as a member of the team. Related experience in communication equipment operations, a working knowledge of computers (MS Office, Windows 2000), prior experience in Emergency Service Dispatching and clerical skills are assets. Knowledge of local geography and the principles of mechanical and electrical communication systems is also an asset.
Please note that dispatchers may be required to be available for emergency call back, in accordance with department procedures, for dispatch duties which they are qualified to perform.
Hours of Work:
FULL TIME Dispatcher: works a set shift rotation of two 12 hour dayshifts, followed by two 12 hour nightshifts, followed by 4 days off.
All candidates must provide at time of application verification from an accredited institution showing a typing speed of 35 wpm or greater.
Job-related tests will be conducted with candidates selected for interview.
The successful candidates will also be required to complete a Criminal Records check as a condition of employment.
