School SignThe City’s Enforcement Services reminds residents there is room for improvement in traffic law compliance in schoolzones, as indicated by results collected in the first two weeks of September.

Between September 5th and September 15th, Peace Officers working in City school zones issued 876 violation tickets for various traffic safety offences, plus an additional 29 tickets for parking related infractions.
“Most moving traffic violations are for speeding. The reduction of speed in school zones is a priority because greater speeds equate to significantly higher pedestrian injury/fatality rates,” says Sgt. Ryan Hoffman.

Enforcement Services will continue to focus on ensuring that school zones are a safe place for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike. We will be actively patrolling school zones from 07:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in order to achieve this goal.

More information on school zone safety can be found on the City website here.
