116 Street Construction Completion Date Extended
Posted Date: 9/25/2017
Construction on 116 Street, between 68 Avenue and Township Road 711A, has been extended.

Due to the recent wet weather conditions, the 116 Street Asphalt overlay & Bridge Culvert Replacement completion timeline is extended to October 15, 2017. Construction work began on August 23, 2017.

The project is to be completed in two phases with phase one being the bridge culvert replacement and phase two the asphalt overlay of 116 street between 68 Avenue and the South City limit. Once phase one is completed, phase two will begin and is to be staged to allow for traffic flow.

Both phases are anticipated to be completed by October 15, weather permitting.

The City thanks residents and motorists’ for their patience during this inconvenience. A detour for the area is to be well signed and can be found on Township Road 710 and Highway 40. This detour is shown in the map below.

Background Information

Built in 1963, the existing bridge culvert carries 116 Street over an offshoot of the flying shot lake. The culvert is at the end of its service and is in need of replacement. Once replaced, a minimum of 45-year service life is expected for the new bridge culvert.

The project also includes an asphalt overlay of the existing 116 Street between the City Limits. The asphalt overlay is required to repair, extend the service life of the existing road and to meet future traffic volume.
