Arts Development Festival Funding and Major Project Funding deadline is Jan.2, 2018. The Arts Development Fund offers $70,000 in annual funding from the City of Grande Prairie’s Culture and Heritage Department to non-profit groups and societies hosting community events.
Evaluation of applications is based on a variety of criteria including entertainment value, the cultural or artistic benefit to the community and the ability to attract tourism.
“Arts and culture contribute to what makes Grande Prairie a well-rounded community and such a great place to live,” said Mayor Given. “In an environment where we compete with communities across the globe for talent, a vibrant and exciting cultural scene not only provides opportunities for our young people - it also enhances our ability grow and prosper by satisfying an important 'must-have’ on the checklist of those considering relocating to our city.”
Major Project Funding supports and encourages the development of local artists, groups, programs, and projects within the community. Applications must clearly identify how the proposed funding would benefit the applicant, the project’s impact on the community and a reasonable budget.
Arts Development Scholarships and Arts Development Individual Project Funding winter deadline is Mar. 1.
These funds aim to support and encourage the development of local artists and groups involved in the arts by providing financial support to artists looking to achieve the next level of skill development, expression or performance training. The fund supports programs and/or projects that foster and promote the enjoyment of visual, literary and performing arts by local artists and/or groups, which contribute to the cultural fabric of the community. These may include exhibitions, displays, or the preservation of art.
Large Scale Tourism Event funding is a new fund for 2017. Funds are available to support festivals and sporting events that have a tourism draw of 40 km or greater, resulting in at least 35% of attendance by visitors to our community. For more details on this new fund, please contact the Culture and Heritage Department at 780-830-7090 or view Procedure 317-1 Funding for Large Scale Tourism Events Guidelines on the City of Grande Prairie website.
Arts Development Funding applications are available online at www.cityofgp.com/Funding. Applicants can submit completed applications forms and any required attachments by email to the Arts Development Committee at ArtsDevelopment@cityofgp.com
