Mayor Launches Opioid Response Task Force
Posted Date: 12/4/2017 9:45 PM
Mayor Bill Given launched a Community Opioid Response Task Force today as a forum to share information on available resources and to begin work on a coordinated community action plan that is responsive to the specific needs of Grande Prairie.

The Task Force brings together a number of Grande Prairie organizations who are already dealing with opioid use including health organizations, the business community, law enforcement, school districts and the City.

The Task Force’s first organizational meeting provided an opportunity to share information on individual organizations’ initiatives and to seek support to coordinate activities and to develop a community action plan that addresses opioid use in Grande Prairie. Members agreed that it would be important to grow the Task Force membership as the community action plan begins to take shape.

“The level of cooperation and commitment from the Task Force members to work together in the sharing of information and to begin developing a community action plan for Grande Prairie is encouraging,” said Mayor Given.

“We know that we are not going to solve the issue of opioid use in Grande Prairie overnight, but we know that a collective, coordinated effort gives us the best chance to reduce the impact opioid use is having on our community.”
