Here are the highlights from the City Council meeting on December 3, 2018.
Grande Prairie Youth Council presented an update on the group’s activities over the past year and the focus of their initiatives for 2019.

Bylaws C-1260-102 and C-1353-1- Amendments to the Land Use Bylaw and the Vision West Business Park Outline Plan
Council did not approve 2nd reading amendments to the Land Use Bylaw and the Vision West Business Park Outline Plan which were requested to allow the Grande Prairie Catholic School Board to build a bus maintenance facility.
Bylaw C-1260-100 - Sign Bylaw Review
Council recessed the public hearing on amendments to Schedule B- Signs in the Land Use Bylaw until the City Council meeting on January 14. It will be referred to the appropriate standing committee for further discussion.
The proposed amendments are to increase the number of electronic message displays in the city, increase the maximum size of a standard billboard and permit third party advertising on free standing signs.
2019 Operating and Capital Budget
Council adopted the 2019 Operating and Capital Budgets in principle and the 2020-2022 Operating and Capital Budgets as presented.
The 2019 – 2022 Business Planning and Budget cycle marks the beginning of a number of initiatives outlined in the Strategic Plan approved in 2018. It was created using a Priority Based Budgeting methodology, with a focus on Continuous Improvement initiatives and utilization of LEAN and Agile tools.
The budget results in a 4.1% tax reduction.
Metis Local 1990- Land Purchase
Council approved the funding of land purchase in support of Metis Local 1990 Elder’s Caring Shelter project.
2019 Business Improvement Area Budget Review
Council will review and approve the 2019 Business Improvement Area (BIA) Budget at the City Council meeting on Monday, March 11, 2019.
