Here are the highlights from the City Council meeting on December 3, 2018.

City Council Unanimously Vote to Write Letter for Support for Region’s Oil & Gas Sector

Council recognized Grande Prairie's role in driving the AB economy by unanimously voting to write letters of support for the region’s oil & gas sector and the need for pipelines.

The letters will be sent to Provincial MLAs, Federal MPs, Premier Rachel Notley, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as well as the Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources who are currently studying Bill C-69.

Council Approves Northern Lights Area Structure Plan Bylaw C-1371

Council gave three readings to the Northern Lights Area Structure Plan Bylaw. 

The area structure plan designates the land for long-term industrial and commercial needs. The area also considers the need for recreational areas in the future.

Council Gives First Reading to Borrowing Bylaw – Long-Term Debt Consolidation

Council gave first reading to the Borrowing Bylaw C-1391. It will proceed to second and third reading in early 2019. If second and third reading pass, the bylaw will allow the City to consolidate 19 individual loans into a single debenture with a lower interest rate.

If passed, bylaw C-1931 has the opportunity to increase the City’s cash flow by $3.3 Million per year for the next 5-years. Debt consolidation is expected to occur in March 2019, pending the passing of the bylaw.
