Economic Development Promotional Videos Launch
Two promotional videos were premiered at City Council tonight.

The videos were created by the Economic Development Department to highlight life in Grande Prairie and provide an overview of industry activity in the region.

Community Opioid Response Recommendation

City Council endorsed the Community Opioid Response Plan. The plan is a call to action created by the Opioid Task Force. It includes recommendations to the community based on four pillars. The pillars are prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and policing.

Council also voted in favour of submitting an Alberta Community Partnership Grant Application in support of inter-municipal collaboration to opioid response and invite other municipalities to partner with the City and endorse the City’s application.

Rescinding of Council Policies 430 and 403

Policy 430, Drug and Alcohol Policy, and Policy 403, Health, Wellness, and Safety Policy, were rescinded by Council.

The policies were reviewed because of legislative changes at the provincial and federal level in 2018.The policies have been updated and replaced with City Manager policies.

Reserve Fund Policy

Council approved policy 346 the Reserve Fund Policy, with amendments. The amendments included the requirement for City Council to pass a Special Resolution (support of two thirds of council) to draw the financial stabilization reserve down below the recommended minimum.

This policy is being created to ensure all information regarding reserve funding is consistent, to increase administrative efficiency, and to streamline internal processes.

Council also rescinded the following policies:
  1.  Policy 319 - Transportation Off-Site Levy Reserve Fund Management; 
  2. Policy 321 - Fleet Management System Reserve; 
  3. Policy 322 - Winter Stabilization Reserve; 
  4. Policy 324 - Public Housing Commission Reserve; 
  5. Policy 325 - Cemetery Perpetual Care Reserve; 
  6. Policy 327 - Fire Department Equipment Replacement and Business Initiatives Reserve; 
  7. Policy 331 - Future Expenditures Reserve; 
  8. Policy 334 - Public Reserve; 
  9. Policy 338 - Financial Stabilization Reserve;
  10. Policy 339 - Facility Renewal Reserve; 
  11. Policy 342 - RCMP Detachment Reserve; 
  12. Policy 343 - Neighbourhood Entrance Features Reserve; 
  13. Policy 344 - Pinnacle Ridge Special Tax Reserve; 
  14. Policy 345 - Public Art Reserve.
