Mayor Dwight Logan officially opened the extension of 102 Street today, a project that will improve traffic flow in the northern section of the city.
The street was extended between 113 Ave. and 116 Ave. at a cost of $1.7 million. Work began in May.
“This initiative provides relief to developing traffic congestion on 102 Street at the 115 and 116 Ave. intersections and give access to north to Northridge and south to downtown,” says Matt Hinton, Project Technologist. “This also means better access for emergency vehicles departing from the fire hall on the north side of the bypass.”
The extension is two lanes, except at the intersections where there are turning lanes.
ISL Engineering, Traffic Solutions, Wapiti Gravel, Proform Concrete Services, High Line Electrical, GP Lawn Doctor, Green Blade, Lafrentz, Yardmaster, Atco Electric, and Aquatera were involved in completion of the project.
