Experiencing Grande Prairie Through Art

Friday, June 13, 2008 12:55:00 PM

The foyer of City Hall is alive with the sights of Grande Prairie.

Twenty-two paintings, mostly watercolours, adorn the walls of the first floor of the building. They form an exhibition by the Guild of Artists honouring the 50th Anniversary of Grande Prairie as a city. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the guild.

Participating artists include Corrine Cowan, Yvonne Dickson, Valerie Ditch, Carol-Lee Eckhardt, Louanne Hart, Sylvia Hayes, Colleen Holler, Jean Kimble, Louise Lissoway, Emily Lozeron, Dale Syrota, and Nan Swanston.

“The show depicts snapshots in time of what we have seen and appreciate about Grande Prairie,” says, Swantston, president of the Guild. “Some of the paintings are historical viewpoints where others highlight different areas of Grande Prairie or reflect on the life we enjoy in the City.”

Residents are invited to check out the show at City Hall. A closing reception and sale is planned for Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.

"For me, there is no question that this is one of the highlights of our 50th anniversary celebrations,” says Ald. Bill Given, Chair of the 50th Anniversary Committee.  "It’s great to see the Guild's exhibition feature the beauty that can be found within our city limits."
