South Montrose Open House Profiles Future Site Ideas

The City of Grande Prairie is hosting a June 24 open house to garner community feedback on a draft amendment to the Montrose Section of the Downtown Enhancement Plan.

This amendment outlines a plan for the southern portion of the former Montrose School site, south of the new Montrose Cultural Centre – the new Library/Gallery facility.

The open house runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Muskoseepi Park Pavilion meeting room.

“Planning staff are hosting the open house to showcase the planning and design ideas presented in this amendment,” says City Planner Rachelle Dillon. “We invite residents to attend this session and provide input.”

Comments received at the open house will be forwarded to the South Montrose Site Steering Committee for consideration in the draft document before submitting the amendment to Council.

“The draft recommends expanding the artistic and cultural nature of the surrounding area to the south end of the site,” says Dillon. “This will include space for a town square along with room for one or two future cultural facilities.”

The plan also includes a 30-metre landscaped area south of the new Montrose Cultural Centre to accommodate the greenway proposed in the Downtown Enhancement Plan.

Residents who are unable to attend but are interested in contributing ideas or learning more about the amendments can call City Planner Rachelle Dillon at 780-538-0434 or by email at rdillon@cityofgp.com.
