Today and Tomorrow. The Grande Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce is marking the City’s 50th Anniversary with a full-colour, 108-page book by that title. It serves as a snapshot in time of the community today and looks ahead to an exciting future.
The book was produced with financial assistance through the City’s 50th Anniversary community fund and is available at the Chamber of Commerce, the City of Grande Prairie, Al’s News, Forbes and Friends, the Centre 2000 Gift Shop, the hospital gift shop, and Maxim Storage.
About 2,500 copies remain at a cost of $40, including GST.
Photography for the book was derived from a photo contest held earlier this year, supplemented with professional images. Several local writers authored articles. The book covers the present day and future of education, technology, industry, sports and recreation, and entertainment. Other topics include People, City Sights and Culture/Multiculturalism.
“I was elated to find a way to celebrate Grande Prairie in a visual format,” says Cheryl McKenzie of 14th Floor Design, publisher of the book. “As a life-long resident of this community, I have enjoyed watching the City grow to where it is in 2008. Today and Tomorrow is a perfect title because it documents where we stand now in various facets and encourages readers to consider the future of this beautiful City we call home.”
“I am delighted to see a publication that captures a sense of this community as we know it but that also looks forward,” says Mayor Dwight Logan. “We often speak of our City being dynamic and vibrant, and the book illustrates this through the timely articles and the fabulous photography that help bring the pages to life.”
Tab Pollock, Board Chair, Grande Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce, says the organization had been contemplating how to bring together the community’s story in words and images.
“Grande Prairie’s 50th Anniversary as a City was the perfect opportunity to complete this project and we are very pleased with the outcome,” he says. “The result is an excellent coffee table book that capitalizes on the full colour production and the great story our community has to tell as it reaches this important milestone and moves ahead to its 100th year since incorporation in 2014.”
