Fire Department Hosts Open House

Monday, June 16, 2008 3:30:00 PM

The Grande Prairie Fire Department is hosting an open house Tuesday, June 17 aimed at encouraging local residents to consider a career in fire fighting.

“We are going to have a number of retirements in the coming years while at the same time we are adding fire fighters with the third fire hall being built in the west end,” says Fire Chief Dan Lemieux. “We want people in the region to consider a career in fire fighting as a profession where they can remain in the community.

“By having people come to the fire hall, they will get a chance to speak with some of our staff, find out what type of training is required and get a closer look at some of the equipment we use,” Lemieux says. “Although the training is rigorous, it is not for as long as with many careers and it is in an area where you know you can make a difference.”

The open house runs from 7-8 p.m.
