The Grande Prairie Communities in Bloom Committee unveiled one of the community’s heritage trees Tuesday September 30 on the corner of 102 Street and 93 Avenue.
“The Communities in Bloom committee worked with the Heritage Tree Foundation of Canada on this project for the last several years,” says Committee Chair, Alderman Gladys Blackmore. “We are pleased the project is completed.”
Dr. Lewis O’Brien planted the Scots Pine trees unveiled on the corner of 102 Street and 93 Avenue. The trees shaped by strong west winds are estimated at between 50 and 60 years old.
The Heritage Tree Foundation of Canada has designated several trees and hedges located throughout the community designated as heritage trees;
· The Cottonwood Poplars in Muskoseepi Park (in various locations throughout the park)
· The trees in the VLA area (105 Avenue from 98 St – 100 St)
· The Spruce hedge located at 9832 – 105 Avenue
The Heritage Trees of Alberta Book is available for purchase at the Grande Prairie and District Museum.
