Homecoming Weekend Just Around The Corner

The City of Grande Prairie is holding a big party on the August long weekend and everyone is invited!

 

In fact, residents attending Tuesday’s Canada Day Parade will be handed an invitation in the shape of a record album that provides every detail of the four days of festivities.


“These are novel promotional pieces we have been distributing throughout the community and to former residents,” says Lois Harper, Manager of Recreation and Culture. “We want people of all ages to enjoy this community celebration which we’ve put together to help pay tribute to the last 50 years of accomplishments and to look forward to many great things that lie ahead.”

 

Homecoming starts on Friday, Aug. 1 with a welcome reception at Centre 2000, starting at 6:30 p.m.

 

A golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 2.at the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Heritage Tours and a Tea are set for Muskoseepi Park, starting at 2:00 p.m. The Crystal Centre will host a Homecoming barbecue and 50s Dance, starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on-line at www.muniportal.ca and click on Crystal Centre Box Office – Event Ticketing, or by calling 780-538-0387.

 

The slate for Sunday Aug.3 includes a 50 Years Anniversary Breakfast at the Legion, commencing at 9:00 a.m., a 100 Flags Heritage Festival at Muskoseepi Park, beginning at 11:00 a.m. and the Hometown Heroes Parade. It marshals at Harry Balfour School and then moves to Muskoseepi Park, starting at 1:30 p.m. The re-enactment of the delivery of the City Charter gets underway at Muskoseepi Park at 2:00 p.m. There, anniversary cake will be served.
