A Proud Symbol of the City of Grande Prairie
Trumpeter swans, the world’s largest waterfowl, can be seen in Grande Prairie region from mid-April to the end of October. These rare birds can be easily confused with the more abundant tundra swans, which also appear around Grande Prairie in the spring and fall, but spend their summers north of the Arctic Circle.
With a worldwide population of under 30,000, the trumpeter is the world’s rarest swan. These pages exist to provide Grande Prairians and others finding more about our city how precious and special these beautiful birds really are.
