Can I apply for a Special Mail-In Ballot?

If you are not going to be within the City area on the election day, or if you have physical limitations that hinder your ability to vote at either an advance voting station or on election day, you will be able to apply for a Special Ballot. We are not accepting Special ballot applications yet. This process will not begin until August 2021.

Can I start spending campaign funds I have already collected?

No. You must be a candidate in order to incur candidate expenses. You are not officially a candidate until you submit your nomination papers along with your deposit. Nominations cannot be accepted until January 4, 2021.

If I work for the City or for the School Board, do I need to take a leave of absence to be a candidate?

Yes. In order to be eligible to run in the election, you need to take a leave of absence prior to becoming a candidate. For more information please refer to the Local Authorities Election Act. Candidates are solely responsible for making sure they are eligible to run.

Can I use the City or School Board Logos on my Election Signs?

No. As indicated in the Candidate Packages under “Advertising & Election Signs”, Campaign material and signs must not:

  • Show a ballot marked for a candidate; and
  • Use the City of Grande Prairie crest, symbol, logo or brand, nor the Public or Separate School Division logo.
