The Grande Prairie Youth Engagement Awards (GP YEA!) are presented annually to businesses, schools and community agencies that illustrate the valuable role community plays in positive youth development in Grande Prairie

Award Categories

There are four categories for the Youth Engagement Awards: 

Youth Employer of Choice

  • Recognizes a business or organization that makes an effort to employ youth/young adults as part of its staffing model. 
  • The business or organization maintains a healthy and safe work environment and provides ongoing support and leadership for all employees. 
  • The nominated business/organization must operate within the City of Grande Prairie. 

Community Engagement Award

  • Recognizes a junior or senior high school or community youth agency which promotes and takes strides to develop a positive youth culture and embraces community connectedness. 
  • The recipient school/agency works closely with the community to deliver unique and innovative educational or social/healthy opportunities to youth. 
  • Nominated agency/school must operate within the City of Grande Prairie. School must belong to one of the following jurisdictions: Grande Prairie Public School District, Grande Prairie Catholic School District or Peace Wapiti School Division. Agency must offer direct services and/or supports to teenagers living in the City of Grande Prairie. 

Youth Friendly Business Award

  • Recognizes a business, service, or corporation that values youth as a client or patron. 
  • Youth are treated equal to other customers accessing the nominated business, service or corporation. 
  • The nominated business/organization must operate within the City of Grande Prairie.

Youth Mentor of Choice

  • Recognizes individuals dedicated to mentoring youth in the community

Virtual Award Reception

The Youth Engagement Awards reception takes place on Friday, May 7, 2021 from 5:30pm - 6:30pm. The event will be streamed live to the City of Grande Prairie's Youtube Channel and is free for everyone. 

The Youth Engagement Awards are are pleased to welcome Keisha Mastrodimos as the keynote speaker for 2021.
