What is Planning and Development?

We provide planning and development services to residents, developers, builders, and others involved in the planning, design, and construction.

We strive to provide a safe, efficient, aesthetically pleasing, and environmentally friendly community in which we can all live, work and play.

Development Permitting

Responsible for: Administering the City of Grande Prairie's Land Use Bylaw, reviewing and deciding on all major/minor development applications and issuing development permits. Issue Certificate of Compliance

Land Use Planning

Responsible for: Maintaining, processing, and updating statutory land use plans and policies and amendments to non-statutory planning documents. This includes the Intermunicipal Development Plan, the Municipal Development Plan, Area Structure Plans, Outline Plans, Area Redevelopment Plans, and the Land Use Bylaw.

Land Management

Land Management is responsible for managing Public Land, which is lands within the City boundary owned by the City of Grande Prairie.  The area oversees the acquisition, disposition, leasing/licensing and encroachments on Public Land (as per Policy 602), to ensure fair, effective, and economically viable management of this land.
