The Government of Alberta, through the Municipal Government Act, provides municipalities with the authority to establish a system of licensing for businesses, business activities and persons engaged in business. Business Licensing bylaws are enacted to protect public health and safety, and a Business Licence serves as a confirmation that a business complies with local laws and regulations.

The City of Grande Prairie licenses certain businesses (PDF, 235 KB) that operate within the municipal city limits.

Who does this apply too?

Every separate business entity, trade, profession, industry, occupation, employment, calling or person providing goods or services that fall under "Schedule A" (PDF, 235 KB) of Bylaw C-1064 in the City of Grande Prairie is required to hold a valid City of Grande Prairie Business Licence, unless otherwise provincially, federally or specifically exempt.

All Non-Resident Businesses require a Business Licence. All home based businesses will require a home office consent form or a home based business permit from our Planning and Development department prior to the approval of the business licence application.
