The Edson trail was one of the main pioneering routes for the Grande Prairie Region.  Settlers used the caboose much like we use a modern camping trailer.  It was a way for them to travel through the wilderness with their belongings.   Once the settlers arrived on their land, the caboose was used as their home until they built their first cabin.  Cabooses were also used for Grande Prairie’s first hospital and post office.
