The City of Grande Prairie understands the importance of building better relationships with the people who live around us. In celebration of neighbours and community, we are hosting Neighbour Day on Saturday, September 19.
The idea is to meet neighbours, make new friends and have fun in your community. Creating a connected community fosters a sense of belonging and well being by celebrating the very people we live next door to.
Celebrating Neighbour Day
There are many ways for you to connect with your neighbours and celebrate the vibrancy of your community while still following the social distancing guidelines issued by the Government of Alberta. Here are a few suggestions:
- Have a socially distanced neighbourhood picnic at a local park
- Host a driveway or walkway decorating competition using sidewalk chalk
- Invite your neighbour over for a socially distanced coffee or tea in your driveway
- Be creative in your own way to celebrate community spirit
The City of Grande Prairie and Grande Prairie Regional Tourism have also partnered to host a scavenger hunt through the GooseChase scavenger hunt app. Residents can participate by downloading the app and completing missions to win points for their neighbourhood. The neighbourhoods with the most points at the end of the scavenger hunt will be entered to win a free community picnic. The scavenger hunt begins September 8 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on September 19. Download the scavenger hunt sheet for details on how to get started!
Check in with your local Neighbourhood Association (NA) to see if they are hosting an event. Follow your NA Facebook page to stay informed.
Good Neighbour Recognition
This year we are asking residents to acknowledge others who have provided assistance, a service or are just truly outstanding citizens by sharing stories of ways your neighbours have impacted you.
Recognize a Great Neighbour Today
Here are a few things you can recognize your neighbour for:
- Snow shovelling
