Delegations

Satbir Baidwan presented as a delegate on behalf of the Grande Prairie Sikh Missionary Society to request Council waive the land purchase cost and associated fees for properties adjacent to the Gudwara Sahib, Grande Prairie’s Sikh temple.

Council directed Administration to bring back more information in partnership with the delegate and report back to the appropriate standing committee.

Recreation and Parks Month June 2021

Mayor Jackie Clayton proclaimed June as Recreation and Parks Month in Grande Prairie.

The proclamation recognizes the value that our countless recreational opportunities and park spaces and amenities bring to the community for our health, wellness, sense of connectedness and environmental sustainability.

We are fortunate in Grande Prairie to have such a wide variety of recreation and park space, and encourage you all to enjoy all it has to offer year-round.

Development Incentives & Grants Program

Council approved the Development Incentives and Grants Program. The program provides the City with a competitive investment attraction program and is designed to provide financial assistance through grants designed to stimulate business development, building activity and continued local employment in construction and trades.

It encourages new development and reinvests in buildings and properties throughout the City and new residential infill development in the City's core. Learn more in the latest media release.

Community Group Funding

Council approved Operational Funding of $10,000.00 for Peace Wapiti Speed Skating Club for 2022 from the Arctic Winter Games Legacy Fund.

Council approved allocation of 2023 Enhancement Funding with the provision that no single grant will exceed $14,999.00.

Council approved STARS funding for $50K per year for 2022-2023 through the 2020 surplus which is currently held as unallocated Future Expenditures Reserves.

Discussion on 2022-2023 Operational Community Group Funding is being deferred to a future Council meeting, and Capital Community Group Funding to budget deliberations.

Bylaw C-1430A - Amendment to the Downtown Phase 4 Borrowing Bylaw

Council passed an amendment to the Downtown Phase 4 Borrowing Bylaw.

Correspondence

Mayor Clayton sent a letter to Minister of Health Tyler Shandro regarding plans for office space leasing at the QEII hospital.

Council received a letter of support from the Grande Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce for the Development Incentives and Grants Program.
