Here are the highlights from the City Council meeting held on October 21, 2019:

Council Meeting Calendar and Member Appointments 2019-2020

City Council approved the rotating Deputy Mayor Schedule, Council committee member appointments, as well as the Council meeting calendar for the remainder of 2019 and 2020.

 

International Association of Fire Fighters Collective Agreement

Council approved the terms of the collective agreement with the IAFF retroactive to January 1, 2018 for a two-year term.

 

Council Remuneration Review Committee Terms of Reference

City Council approved the Terms of Reference for the Council Remuneration Committee. The Terms of Reference mandate the committee to function as an ad-hoc committee of City Council. It will be comprised of 4 public members and City advisory staff, as appointed by the City manager.

The purpose of the committee is to research and present a report and recommendations for the remuneration for City Council for the October 2021 to October 2025 term.

 

Boards and Committees Review

City Council discussed and amended the Boards and Committee Review. Council directed administration to implement the amended changes to modernize the City’s approach to boards and committees before October 1, 2020. As well as bring back to committee

The Boards and Committee Review provides administration the ability to find the most efficient way for the City to manage and navigate boards and committees.

 

Public Hearing for the Transportation System Bylaw Amendment

City Council approved changes to the Transportation System bylaw. The changes update the bylaw to include land annexed in 2016. The changes also align the City with Alberta’s City Transportation Act. 

 

Public Hearing for the Hidden Valley Area Structure Plan

At second reading, City Council defeated a motion to repeal and replace the Hidden Valley Area Structure Plan as requested in the application.

In addition, Council passed the following motions:

  • Direct administration to bring to the appropriate standing committee a report on the 35% top-of-bank setback policy contained in the 2010 Municipal Development Plan.
  • Wave the application fees for a period of 12 months for the developer, if he wishes to re-apply for the Area Structure Plan
  • Direct the CAO and Director of Infrastructure and Economic Development to connect with the applicant to discuss his ASP application.
