The City of Grande Prairie is proud to host Canada Day celebrations across Revolution Place and Muskoseepi Park on Sunday, June 30 and Monday, July 1.

Sunday, June 30

Canada Day Carnival

Location: Revolution Place

Time: 12:00 p.m.- 10:00 p.m. 

Details: Outdoor celebration featuring carnival rides, entertainment, local food trucks and beer gardens. 

Canada Day Kick-Off

Location: Muskoseepi Park

Time: 8:00 p.m.- midnight 

Details: Two stages of entertainment, children’s activities, local food and community vendors and a traditional fireworks display over the reservoir at midnight.

Monday, July 1 

Canada Day Carnival 

Location: Revolution Place

Time: 12:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.

Details: Outdoor celebration featuring carnival rides, entertainment, local food trucks and beer gardens. 

Canada Day Parade

Location: Downtown

Time: 1:00 p.m.- 2:30 p.m.

Details:  Each year 100+ floats march through downtown Grande Prairie to celebrate our national holiday. This year’s theme is “Canadian Pride”. Judging categories include: Best Costumes, Best Homemade, Most Child-friendly, and Most Patriotic. An annual Parade Marshal Award is also given out for the best overall float.

This year, the parade returns to its traditional route. It starts westbound on 108 Avenue at 94 Street in Hillside neighbourhood, turns south on 96 Street, west on 100 Avenue, then north onto 106 to disband in the Grande Prairie Regional college parking lot.

Canada Day Celebrations

Location: Muskoseepi Park

Time: 2:30 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.

Details: Official opening ceremonies commence around the amphitheatre stage with introductions and dignitary speeches. Live entertainment on two stages will follow as well as food and community vendors, children’s activities, face painting and the signature Canada Day giant cake. 

The Grande Prairie Museum and Heritage Village will also be open, featuring carnival games and a kettle corn fundraiser by WINMAR with 100% of proceeds going to support the museum.

Park ‘N’ Ride

New Horizon Petroleum Co-Op is proudly sponsoring the Canada Day Park ‘N’ Ride Service to move you downtown to watch the Canada Day Parade and celebrate Canada Day in Muskoseepi Park.

Park at GPRC or Centre 2000 and take the shuttle to/from the Muskoseepi Park Entrance on 102 Street with service every 20 minutes.

Park’N’Ride is also available at the Eastlink Centre and to/from Towne Centre Mall and Muskoseepi Park on 100 Avenue with service every 30 minutes.

Shuttle service runs 11:30 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.- 6:15 p.m. The service is suspended from 1:00 p.m.- 2:30 p.m. during the parade but a shuttle will be parked at the Towne Centre Mall for post-parade rides to Muskoseepi Park and the Eastlink Centre.

The last bus leaves Muskoseepi Park at 6:15 p.m. 

Helpful Celebration Tips

Here are some additional pieces of information to help you and everyone in the community enjoy the Canada Day celebrations as best as possible:

  • Commuters are reminded to expect traffic delays and plan alternative routes during the parade. No traffic is permitted on the parade route from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. Roads will reopen once parade and spectator traffic has disbanded and it is safe to do so. Drivers are encouraged to use 116 Street, 108 Street or 92 Street if travelling north/south and 68 Avenue, 84 Avenue and 116 Avenue if travelling westbound.
  • There will be no parking available in Muskoseepi Park from 11:00 a.m. on June 30 to 7:00 p.m. on July 1.
  • The Canada Day Parade and Celebration in Muskoseepi Park have a zero tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol, including the use of cannabis. As per City policy, individuals may not smoke, vape, apply, inhale or ingest cannabis within a 30 meter radius of a public park, recreation facility or parade, where children are playing or congregating or at an outdoor special event.
  • All events are free but attendees are encouraged to bring cash for the food trucks and other vendors.
  • The crowds and noise can be overwhelming for animals, so please leave pets at home.
  • Prepare for the weather and pack appropriately including sunscreen, umbrellas, etc.
  • Bring water to stay hydrated throughout the events.
