The City of Grande Prairie is making upgrades to three traffic cabinets and one set of traffic signals leading to traffic impacts at four intersections beginning November 11, 2019.

The traffic signal cabinets impact the following intersections:

  • 100 Street & 82 Avenue (South Safeway)
  • 108 Street & 84 Avenue (No Frills)
  • 108 Street & 76 Avenue (Entrance to the Pinnacle and Mission Heights Neighbourhoods)

In addition, the traffic signals at 100 Street and 94 Avenue will be replaced, resulting in periodic lane closures. Traffic is expected to flow in all directions at all times.

Each intersection will experience a short blackout as crews work to transition to the new infrastructure.  Commuters must treat the intersection as an all-way stop during this time. All efforts will be made to ensure traffic signal blackouts occur off-peak times.

Other traffic interruptions are expected to be minimal as most of the work will be done off the roadway. Motorists are urged to use caution in all construction zones and to abide all posted speed limit signs.

About the Traffic Signal Program

The Traffic Signal Program is an annual City program that is designed to repair and replace traffic signals and their related infrastructure. Full rehabilitation consists of the installation of new traffic signals, including bases, poles, conduits, and cables, while removing the old signals and their related infrastructure.
