The City of Grande Prairie’s Youth Advisory Council is celebrating Youth Week in May with a virtual screening of the Connecting the Dots documentary and virtual Youth Engagement Awards event.

Youth Week takes place every year from May 1-7 to honour the accomplishments and diversity of young people within the community; and acknowledge the positive contribution that youth play within our community.

Connecting the Dots Documentary Screening

Connecting the Dots is the first feature documentary of its kind to offer a raw and intimate look at youth mental health from a global perspective. This 90 min film showcases youth voices breaking barriers around youth mental health.

The documentary screening is being followed by a panel discussion of local experts and those with lived experience who will be sharing their stories and taking questions from the audience.

The virtual event takes place Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Registration is required and can be completed by visiting the event listing at cityofgp.com/events.

Youth Engagement Awards

The Grande Prairie Youth Engagement Awards (GP YEA!) event is being hosted virtually on Friday, May 7 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

The awards are presented annually to businesses, schools and community agencies that illustrate the valuable role community plays in positive youth development in Grande Prairie.

This year’s event features keynote speaker Keisha Mastrodimos, a 24-year-old quadriplegic who is spreading her story of hope, resilience and inspiration to youth in Grande Prairie.

The event is being livestreamed on the City’s Youtube channel.
