The 2010 Arctic Winter Games Legacy Fund offers funding to bring new and exciting recreation, sporting and cultural events for youth to Grande Prairie and region. Funding is rewarded to new events (1st year) or a sporting or cultural event that does not occur each year.

The Arts & Culture Operational & Performance Group funding stream is meant to assist organizations and groups who provide support to the arts community and performance groups in reaching the next level of development, expression, or performance. This funding will assist those groups in providing arts and culture activities, programs, and events in Grande Prairie.

The City of Grande Prairie accepts applications for festival funding, based on specific criteria, for groups and/or individuals wishing to apply for funds. Applicants are advised that if successful here, their request will not be considered under any other grant process administered by the City.

Category: Economic Recovery Program
The Barrier-Free Grant is designed to promote a business environment that is accessible to all residents, visitors and employees, through financial incentives for commercial property and business owners to invest in Accessibility Improvement Projects. The Barrier-Free Grant is a matching grant that will provide 50% of project costs up to a maximum of $20,000 for eligible Accessibility Improvement Projects.

A 50% matching grant for up to a maximum $15,000 for any façade improvement, landscaping or patio project that improves aesthetic appeal, pedestrian access and safety of a commercial, retail or mixed use building.

This award is to recognize volunteer organizations or foundations in Grande Prairie that have provided outstanding contributions to the community through meritorious service, voluntary contributions and exemplary community development having a direct, positive effect on residents of the City of Grande Prairie

A four-year annual rebate equal to 100% of the general municipal tax portion of the Incremental Assessed Value of the property in the first year, decreasing by 25% annually for three additional years.

The Demolition Grant is a matching grant that provides business owners with 50% of the Hard Costs of demolition, up to a maximum of $50,000.

This funding will be given to community groups or agencies based upon urgent need. Community groups or agencies must provide a business case for the funding, including indication of financial need (including financial statements).

The Façade Improvement Grant is a matching grant that will provide 50% of the project cost up to the lesser of $750 per Front Foot or a total of $50,000 for Façade Improvement Projects in the Downtown Incentives Program Boundary.

The George Repka Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have made a major contribution in the areas of recreation, culture, or social services to the community.

The City is pleased to offer funding to festivals and sporting events that have a tourism draw of 100 km or greater, resulting in at least 35% of attendance by visitors to our community.

The Local Marketing Grant will pay up to 50% to a maximum of $2,500 for the creation of a marketing plan or marketing content that aims to drive cash flow to the business and supports economic recovery.

Collaborative projects involving three or more businesses will be eligible for 75% of funding up to $7,500. The intent is to drive tourism efforts, enhance the visitor experience, encourage place making and create natural partnerships and itineraries.

A grant equal to 100 % of the City imposed portions of all Inspection Services Permit Fees, Engineering Services Fees and Planning & Development Fees to a maximum of $10,000. Land Use Bylaw Amendment Fees may be rebated 100% for an approved application and 50% for applications not approved.

Pursuit of Excellence Athlete Development funding is provided to assist in the training and development of individual athletes who are pursuing excellence in their chosen sport.

The Bob Neufeld Scholarship provides up to 4 scholarships of $1,200 annually to individuals who are pursuing excellence in their chosen sport(s). Applications can be from individual athletes, volunteer coaches or officials who have a desire to further their expertise in their chosen sport.

Coaching education is the number one priority with Pursuit of Excellence. Funding is available to assist coaches, referees, officials, and other volunteers to attend training opportunities to further their expertise in their chosen sport. This funding prioritizes coaching education, particularly locally through clinics, conferences, and symposiums.

In 2006, Grande Prairie resident and former Canadian Freestyle Ski Team athlete Ryan Blais established the Come Fly with Me Legacy Fund: an endowment held with the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta as a result of the firsthand experience and support he received from our community and region throughout his athletic pursuits.

Sport organizations are encouraged to offer training locally to allow for a greater number of coaches, officials, and volunteers to benefit from the training. Two $2500.00 scholarships are given out annually through the Pursuit of Excellence Perky McCullough International Excellence Scholarship Fund to support local high performance athletes who have demonstrated the ability to compete at the international level.

The purpose of Sport Hosting Grant is to support and encourage the hosting of local Sport Events in the community. Sport Tourism is widely recognized to have significant direct and
indirect economic, social, and health benefits on the community. Sport Hosting Grant applications will be considered twice a year as funds allow.

To encourage the addition of residential units in the downtown area, eligible projects may receive grants up to $10,000 per Dwelling Unit for apartment buildings and $15,000 per Dwelling Unit for Mixed-Use Apartment Buildings located within the Downtown Incentives Program Boundary.
