The City of Grande Prairie has declared a state of local emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Declaring a state of local emergency enables the City to enact additional powers to combat the spread of the pandemic, ensure the stability of core services and support the community.
“We’ve made this decision with the best interests of the community and all of our residents top of mind,” says Mayor Bill Given.
“While most who contract Covid-19 will recover, many may still need significant care, and all at the same time.”
“We must take active measures to slow the pace of the pandemic so we can give our local health systems an ability to cope with the increased demand that will come. We must all work together to protect the people in our community who are most vulnerable.”
“We have strong systems in place to help us get ahead of this situation and mitigate the ongoing risk, while ensuring that core services such as emergency services, utilities and food supplies are dependable for everyone.”
“Times are challenging right now, but we are a resilient community. I encourage everyone to take care of themselves and continue to reach out to each other via telephone and social media so we can stay connected and supportive during this time.”
