2025 Playground Replacement Projects
Jumpstart Inclusive Playground at Lions Park
The Jumpstart Inclusive Playground at Lions Park is a new, barrier-free play space being developed through a partnership between the City of Grande Prairie and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities (Jumpstart). The project is designed to provide accessible, inclusive play opportunities for children of all abilities and is part of a broader effort to enhance the quality of life for all residents.
Anticipated Timeline: July 2025 - Mid-late September 2025
Project Overview
In 2023, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities approached the City of Grande Prairie with an offer to fund a Jumpstart Inclusive Playground. Jumpstart’s contribution of $950’000 is covering a substantial portion of the design and construction costs of the new playground.
The site was selected through a collaborative process between Jumpstart and the City, with Lions Park identified as the most suitable location. The park met Jumpstart’s site selection criteria, which included:
- A central, visible location.
- Proximity to public transit.
- Accessible washroom facilities (to be built within the next 5 years).
- Space for accessible parking and pathways.
The new playground is being constructed in a similar footprint to the existing 19-year-old playground, which is being replaced as part of this project. The nearby spray park will remain in place and while it is closed during construction, will be unchanged after completion.
