Youth Advisory Council

The Youth Advisory Council exists as a voice for the youth of the City of Grande Prairie, while advising Community Boards and Committees, Council, and community agencies on important issues concerning the City’s Youth population.

Who We Are

The City of Grande Prairie Youth Advisory Council (GPYAC or YAC) is an advisory committee made up of youth aged 14 to 24. We are high school or college students and young professionals who represent the voices of local youth through our combined experiences and backgrounds. YAC members are leaders who aim to inspire, effect change and have an impact on the community through advocacy and policymaking.

GPYAC receives funding from both the municipal and provincial governments to provide young people in the area with opportunities to engage in various youth events, skill-building activities, and forums.

What We Do

YAC contributes to building a society of active and engaged citizens by creating opportunities to provide youth perspective to City Council & Administration, Community Agencies, Committees and Boards. The Council organizes local Youth Week events, including the annual Youth Engagement Awards, and works on special projects to address youth issues and concerns. We are committed to opinions being heard and having key issues addressed. Past Youth Advisory Councillors have been involved in discussions around social, political, mental and sexual health, transit and youth space planning and have hosted a number of youth focused events.
