Community Compass

The Grande Prairie & Area Community Compass is a collaborative coordinated initiative designed to streamline access to community services, housing programs, and supports. It helps residents quickly and easily connect to the right support — whether it's housing, food, mental health, family services or more. Coordinated Access ensures individuals are matched to the best services for their needs, through trained Navigators and a shared system of care.

The different components of the system include:

  • A Digital Resource Directory - this digital directory can be used to find local, relevant and up-to-date information on support services based on their needs.
  • Community Navigators - community support workers who you can turn to for support.
  • Housing and Homelessness Services - support for individuals at risk of, or experiencing homelessness.

Do you need assistance finding local supports and services?

If you are not sure where to start or need help using the Digital Resource Directory, call the following numbers within business hours (8:30 to 4:30, Monday to Friday):

  • 311 (within City limits)

Community Navigators

Community Navigators use a person-centered approach to assist individuals in discovering an appropriate path to addressing issues that go beyond the simple need for information on service locations. They provide warm referrals to uphold the coordinated access objective of ensuring an integrated and accessible point of contact for all people within our community.

Housing and Homelessness Services

What are we doing to address homelessness?

Shelter & Housing Continuum

A Housing Continuum is a flexible framework that outlines various housing options, from emergency shelters to long-term stable housing. It adapts to individuals' changing needs, allowing movement between stages based on factors like income, health, and family dynamics, rather than following a strict progression.

Coordinated Access & The Housing Hub Table

Coordinated Access standardizes the process for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness to connect with housing and support services within a community.

The City of Grande Prairie, alongside local homeless-serving organizations, works to provide shelter, housing, and support to residents experiencing chronic homelessness. A key part of this effort is the Housing Hub Table, a weekly meeting of community service providers who assess participants' needs and make tailored referrals to housing agencies and support services.

Eviction Prevention

Eviction prevention services provide support to individuals and families at risk of losing their housing. Through a comprehensive intake process, clients are assessed for immediate needs, financial assistance options, and connections to legal aid, mediation, and support services. The goal is to stabilize housing situations, prevent homelessness, and ensure long-term housing security through proactive intervention and resource navigation.
