The City and the County of Grande Prairie have started construction on the Connector Trail, marking a significant milestone for the project.

The new two-kilometre trail is intended to enhance connectivity and recreation between the County of Grande Prairie and City of Grande Prairie and is being built collaboratively by the two municipalities.

The million-dollar infrastructure project is supported by a $750,000 grant from the Canada Community Revitalization Fund which aims to revitalize communities nationwide. Additionally, County Council allocated $263,000 of municipal reserve funding, and the City of Grande Prairie committed $48,981 to the project.

The paved two-kilometre trail will run parallel to Range Road 61 past the Aquatera landfill and include a new pedestrian road crossing at Highway 668 (Correction Line).

The County and City Connector Trail will be available for users in the Spring of 2024. Both municipalities are committed to seeing this project to a successful completion and ensuring that it meets the needs of our intertwining communities.

While work is underway, there will be no impact to Dunes and South Bear Creek trail users, with only minor traffic impacts expected along Highway 668 (Correction Line).
