Effective at 3 p.m. on June 8, 2023 the City of Grande Prairie Fire Department has issued a Fire Ban within the municipal boundaries. The ban is in effect due to dry conditions and a lack of significant rain fall in the forecast making conditions in the area an extreme fire hazard.

Negligence or willful non-compliance may result in up to $10,000 per day administrative penalties under authority of the Alberta Safety Codes Act.

This Fire Ban order will:

• Suspend all fire permits currently issued.
• Require all outdoor fires presently burning whether set under the authority of a Fire Permit or not, extinguished.
• Prohibit the lighting of all recreational outdoor fires, torches, displays, and open burns (see exceptions below).
• Prohibit the lighting of incinerators/ burning barrels.
• Prohibit wood fires in engineered facilities in campgrounds.
• Prohibit the lighting and display of fireworks or the use of exploding targets.

The use of CSA-approved or ULC-certified natural gas, propane or electric barbeques/ smokers (pellet smokers allowed) used for cooking, gas fire pits, and electric catalytic infrared-style heaters are permitted so long as they meet combustible distancing and manufacturer's specifications.

Off highway vehicles (OHVs) are not currently banned.
